The Million Puppet Parade returns to Los Angeles for the 2nd year on 4/6/14. In 2013 over 300 people and puppets participated and we anticipate even more this year.  Puppet making starts at 10:30am and then marching begins an hour later starting from Wilshire Blvd at the Third Street Promenade and then walks the full length. The parade is free to the public and participants can win random prizes including a behind the scenes tour of The Jim Henson Company lot. Muppets!! All part of the LA Puppet Fest.

Next Sunday 4/28 we’ll be parading down the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica. This is what it’s going to look like. More info here. And there will be prizes including a pair of tickets to a behind the scenes tour of the Jim Henson Company...

All this month we’ve been celebrating the first-ever citywide LA Puppet Fest and we’ve been behind the scenes helping to organize it as part of mobilization and education efforts. The culminating event is a parade on the 3rd Street Promenade on 4/28. Your family (and your puppets) are invited to march with us! RSVP here.

Our puppets marched on Washington to show support for public media and today President Barack Obama’s Budget includes federal funding for it! Tell Congress how important public media is to you at http://bit.ly/YM2Yca.

Captain Lavender thanks the major contributors to the Million Puppet March. And we thank you too!

Anonymous asked: I loved your Million Puppet March. Do you have any plans on doing another big puppet gathering for next year and other years to come?

Yes, stay tuned. We just got confirmation that we have tickets to the Presidential Inauguration and we should know next week if we can march in the parade.

Beyond that it looks like we are going to travel to a variety of puppet festivals and we have some marches in early stages of planning in other parts of the country as well.

Anonymous asked: Do you honestly think that if the portion of government funding that goes into Sesame Street were not there the program could not continue on its own?

We know Sesame Street would likely go on even without the current funding, but that’s not the point and we didn’t start this as a means to Save Sesame Street. Much like there are vulture capitalists that are salivating over getting their paws on Twinkies, there would readily be many who would love to buy the brand. IN this age of big media consolidation, one of the other big media companies would also be a ready buyer. But they’d probably find other sources of private financing to fill the gap.

The reason why we marched and continued to march is to protect the entire public broadcasting ecosystem of which Sesame is only a portion.  This includes continued funding for CPB but also all the other stations and programs it supports.  We’ve written about many of these reasons in our about us section and we encourage you to read it. Thanks.

Our movement of puppets and people educates, entertains, and sometimes marches to advocate for a more connected world, full of happy fuzzies. We pull strings to get it done.
